Re-Licensure
If you were previously licensed with NSRD or the former NSCDN and no longer hold a licence, you can apply for re-licensure.
You cannot practise dietetics in Nova Scotia, including participating in workplace orientation or shadowing, until you have received written confirmation from NSRD that your licence has been approved.
Currency of Practice Requirement
To obtain a practising licence, you must generally have completed at least 500 hours of dietetic practice in the previous three years.
If you do not meet this requirement, NSRD will assess your application in accordance with the Assessing Currency for Applicants policy. Depending on your practice history, you may be required to meet additional requirements or your licence may be subject to conditions or restrictions.
Application Process
Complete the application
Log in to the NSRD Registrant Portal and complete the re-licensure application. If you have never accessed the portal or need help logging in, contact registration@nsrd.ca.
The application is a legal document. Complete all sections accurately and include the following documents if they are not already on file with NSRD or need updating:
- Proof of citizenship or authorization to work in Canada.
- Vulnerable sector check (VSC) issued within the last four months.
- Proof of professional liability insurance that meets NSRD requirements.
Incomplete applications may delay processing.
You do not need to upload new copies of valid documents already on file with NSRD. However, NSRD may request updated documents if those on file no longer meet current requirements.
Documents sent separately
Arrange for the following documents to be sent directly to NSRD, where applicable:
- Verification of registration from each regulatory body with which you currently hold or have previously held registration.
- International criminal record check.
Complete registration
If your application is approved, you will be invoiced for the applicable licensing fee. You must pay this fee before your licence can be issued.
Refer to the Fees page for applicable fees. Fees are non-refundable.
Once your full application and supporting documentation have been received, allow up to five business days for processing.
If you have questions or would like to schedule a virtual or telephone appointment, contact registration@nsrd.ca. You can expect a reply within three business days.
Choosing a term licence
A term licence may be available if you intend to practise for four months or less, or if you need a licence for a period of up to four months before the next licensing year. A term licence expires at the end of its approved term and does not carry over into the next licensing year.
If you have questions or would like to schedule a virtual or telephone appointment, contact registration@nsrd.ca. You can expect a reply within three business days.
